Thought about volunteering but not sure about taking the next step? People volunteer for a number of different reasons, ranging from a desire to learn new skills, have fun, help others, form new friendships, develop and maintain self esteem / self worth or to make a difference. Some people are completely devoted to the cause, whilst others simply wish to do their bit where they can. The time and commitment required to be a volunteer varies with each position. Its important though to ensure that your availability is consistent and you can be counted on to be reliable.
Volunteering
Information Session
Southern Volunteering (SA) Inc offers free fortnightly “Introduction to Volunteering” information sessions for potential volunteers wanting to find out more about volunteering in general, specific volunteering opportunities and their rights and responsibilities whilst volunteering. Attendance at these sessions (prior to an interview) form part of the induction process for volunteers interested in volunteering with a City of Onkaparinga Library.
How to find a suitable position
Southern Volunteering represents over 170 organisations in the southern region. These "not for profit" organisations provide Southern Volunteering with volunteer positions and requirements.
Individuals interested in volunteering can take the first step by contacting us at either Noarlunga or Victor Harbor to arrange a time to meet with one of our ‘Volunteer Referral Officers’.
The “interview” provides you with the opportunity to be presented with the range of volunteering options available and for us to find out more about you and offer a choice of suitable positions. The interview generally lasts between 30 - 60 minutes.
Southern Volunteering does not provide a list of registered organisations or specific volunteer vacancies, as availability can vary from week to week. However, to give you a feel for the variety offered, a listing of the types of positions can be viewed for your information.
